Spider veins are small but highly visible veins that appear primarily on the face, outer thighs, calves, ankles, and legs. Long associated with aging, spider veins actually can appear on individuals as early as their twenties. Spider veins can be worsened by sitting or standing for long periods, carrying excess weight, or receiving prolonged sun exposure. Women can also develop spider veins during pregnancy. If you are bothered by spider veins, board-certified Las Vegas dermatologist, Dr. Candace Spann, can help minimize their appearance by using sclerotherapy. This is a nonsurgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of spider veins. By removing them, sclerotherapy helps to restore the beauty of the skin and allows for greater confidence to wear shorts and expose the legs.

"I can not say enough about both Dr. Marvin Spann and Dr. Candace Spann. Let's start with Dr. M., I met him 24 hours before my bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction surgery. I don't care for male Dr.'s, will go out of my way not to see them, but when cancers involved, you don't always have a choice. Honestly I'm grateful that he ended up on my side, months of visits, 2 surgeries and I got a beautiful pair of foobs. As far as him blowing off infections, haha I developed one and had more added appointments than I wanted. Now to Dr. C, I originally made an appointment to get my skin checked, and while there she pointed out 3 things, one of which was flared up thanks to one of my medications. I had been suffering for months, my skin and I thank her. Then I went back for Botox and filler, best choice I've made. My husband also sees Dr. C. He had a spot she didn't like, she cut it out and his back looks just fine. I always say there's a reason for everything, so for me cancer added 2 amazing doctors that actually care to my side, and in Vegas that's hard to find."- J.G. / Yelp / Feb 10, 2020
"Amazing doctors and great staff. Friendly and professional. Beautiful and clean office. The doctors take their time talking to you and answering your every concern. An amazing group of people overall."- P.V. / Yelp / Jan 28, 2020
Sclerotherapy treats veins by injecting a sclerosing solution directly into the vein. The solution causes permanent damage to the vein, causing it to collapse and absorb into the body. Sclerotherapy is a procedure that will be tweaked for every individual based on the number, size, and location of the veins that are being treated. In most cases, there is usually one injection for every inch of spider vein. As each injection takes place, the surgeon will place light pressure on the injection site with a cotton ball and ointment.
Sclerotherapy is performed in an accredited surgical facility. During the procedure, patients will be given a local anesthetic in areas to diminish discomfort, although the patient should only feel a few small pricks. Recovery following vein treatment through sclerotherapy does not require any downtime or absence from the workplace. Most individuals can resume normal activities within 24 hours, and will wear a compression stocking for a few days while the legs heal. Patients will begin to see their veins fading within 2 to 3 weeks, with maximum results being revealed around 6 weeks after the treatment.
Sclerotherapy treatment will vary depending on the number and size of veins that are being treated. Most surgeons charge approximately $300 for a session of sclerotherapy. For most patients, 1-2 treatments are normal, while patients with more severe veins should expect 3-4 treatments.

How Well Does it Work?
Sclerotherapy can improve the appearance of the legs by 70%, but it will not target every single vein. Additional treatments may be necessary for optimal results. Although many patients are very satisfied with the results from sclerotherapy, check with our team to clarify anticipated results and to see if the treatment is the right fit for you.
How About Other Treatments?
While Sclerotherapy is a popular and effective method to remove unattractive veins from the legs, it is not the only choice of treatment that men and women have to choose from. Alternatives include laser treatment, surgical stripping, and even some radiofrequency treatments. Consult our team to discover the optimal solution for your specific case.
Negative Side Effects?
There may be some skin irritation, slight itching, and some skin discoloration after treatment, but this is usually evident at the injection site and will subside in a few days. This procedure is non-invasive, and complications are very rare.
Time Between Treatments?
It is best to plan your treatments a couple of months apart. This gives the skin ample time to heal, as well as time or the treated veins to completely disintegrate.
