Excess tissue, fat and skin around the eyes can make a person look old or tired, even when they feel refreshed and healthy. In some cases, this excess around the eyes may even interfere with vision. If you are bothered by the shape or volume of the tissue around your eyes, you might consider an Eyelid Lift procedure with Las Vegas plastic surgeon, Dr. Marvin Spann. Known as "Blepharoplasty", this surgery creates a more alert, open look to the eyes, reducing the bags below and the droopy, loose skin above. An eyelid lift can help you look years younger, because it reduces puffiness and baggy skin for a more youthful, alert look. Dr. Marvin Spann will discuss all of your options with you during your consultation; we look forward to seeing you soon!
"I could not be more pleased with my results. I would recommend Dr. Spann without hesitation."- Anonymous / Other / Jul 05, 2020
"Thank you Dr. Marvin Spann for the wonderful job you did on my breast surgery and Liposuction!!! The results far exceed any expectation I held! I look and feel amazing!!! My clothes fit better, I carry myself more confidently, and I'm constantly receiving compliments on how I look. Friends and coworkers can't pinpoint the reason, and they can't get over how great I look ;) I started offering to show my breasts to everyone after surgery because I was so happy with, and proud of, the results!!! Dr. Spann's is phenomenal! Every single person who has seen my breasts, post surgery, both clothed and unclothed is floored. The comment I get most is "They look real!". Can't get better than that! Dr. Spann was attentive and his perfectionist nature meant every detail was thought about and my breasts were perfectly executed. I did not experience too much pain and was back to work (being mindful) a week later!!! I was worried that because of my liposuction I would be badly bruised and have significant pain (a friend had it done 6 months earlier (NOT BY Dr. Spann) and she was bruise beyond recognition and in pain for weeks and weeks following her procedure)). My experience could not have been more different! My bruising was minimal, as was my pain. The compression garment that I was given allowed for using the restroom without having to take it on and off, which is brilliant and saved me a lot of discomfort! The results? Wow! WOW!!! For me it was transformative both physically and mentally! I now wear skinny jeans, something that would have NEVER happened before. Finally, thank you to the wonderful staff for their professionalism and skill in making my journey through this process, effortless. The office is beautiful. You are greeted as you walk through the door by the lovely reception team. Everyone I interacted with was kind, patient and available throughout the process beginning to end. They were never bothered to answer questions and always returned calls promptly."- N.B. / Yelp / Apr 12, 2020
"Wonderful service from initial consultation to follow up post-op. Dr. Spann is kind, helpful and professional and made me feel more than comfortable throughout the entire process. I highly recommend him and his team for their service and exceptional work. I am thrilled with my results and thankful to them!"- C.C. / Yelp / Apr 06, 2020
"Dr Spann is one of the most compassionate doctors I have met in a long time. And as a chronic illness patient - I see A LOT of doctors. She is knowledgeable beyond just dermatology. She spent time with, answered all of my questions, and promised to get to the bottom of a very complex health issue I have going on. She is willing to confer with many other doctors to figure this out and instead of writing me off or passing me along (like every other doctor has in town, she’s offering different paths to get to the answer. She said we won’t stop til we figure this out. She is so much more than just a dermatologist! Her staff was exceptional (esp. Lydia) as well, very communicative and helpful. I can’t thank my friend enough for recommending me to her. It’s hard to find rare gem doctors like her!"- N.B. / Google / Mar 05, 2020
"While it is true that I did not leave the office 40 years younger, any thinner and/or smarter, (I really was not actually expecting any magical transformation), it was great. So when I was seen on time, treated well, given excellent consultation and no one made fun of my big big silly sun hat, I began to think I must be loosing my touch at being an insufferable windbag of a patient. Well at least they are giving me the chance to try again at my next visit. Thanks for that."- W.M. / Google / Feb 26, 2020
Eyelid Surgery Surgical Technique
Upper Eyelid Surgery
During upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made within the natural fold of the lid and extended outward. The incision will go out as wide as possible so that additional skin folds on the outside of the upper eye can also be addressed. Once the incision is made, excess skin, tissue and, in some cases, a small portion of the orbicularis oculi muscle are removed. The incision is closed with absorbable sutures and the scar remains almost completely hidden because of where it resides in the natural crease.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
During lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made along the bottom of the lash line. This allows the surgeon to remove excess fat and tissue. In patients who have puffy lower eyelids but good skin tone, an approach known as a transconjunctival Blepharoplasty can be performed. This technique puts the incision inside the lower eyelid rather than outside. Patients who have dark circles under their eyes will sometimes have a deficiency of fat in these areas. Injectables can be used to help fill these soft-tissue deficiencies and can improve the appearance of these circles.
Eyelid Surgery During/After Surgery
Eyelid surgery is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure in an accredited surgical facility. It generally takes up to 2 hours for both the upper and lower eyelids to be addressed. Following surgery, the area around the eyes will be bruised and swollen. Patients should apply ice packs, keep their heads elevated, and apply medicated eye ointment for a few days. Patients comment on the fact that friends and family tell them they look great, but often can’t put a finger on what is different. These subtle, yet dramatic results restore a softer, more youthful appearance.
Eyelid Surgery Expected Cost
The cost for eyelid surgery varies for each patient and will fluctuate depending on whether both the upper and lower eyelids were addressed. Patients who undergo a full Blepharoplasty, which includes both the upper and lower eyelids, will pay on average between $3,000-$6,000. In some patients where the upper eyelid skin obstructs the view, a portion of the surgery may be covered by medical insurance.

After surgery, scarring will not be visible because of where the incisions are placed. In the upper eyelid, the incision follows the natural crease of the eye. The lower eyelid incision will run just under the eyelashes or inside the eyelid. Scarring will be inconspicuous.
Eyelid surgery will reduce puffy bags and excess skin and may help contribute to some minimization of crow’s feet. However, to truly treat crow’s feet, you will need a different approach. BOTOX® injections and procedures such as a Browlift, are better options to help eliminate crow’s feet.
Irritation After Surgery?
Some patients will experience dryness and minimal irritation following surgery. If these occur, we can recommend ointments and eye drops to assist during the healing phase. Patients should protect their eyes against wind and sun irritation for the first several months by wearing dark sunglasses.
If anything, eyelid surgery actually helps improve the vision for many patients. Not only does it restore a fresh, younger look from a cosmetic standpoint, it eliminates the excess skin that may have been impairing vision. It is important to select a skilled surgeon who has expertise with eyelid surgery. We take great care during this surgery so that the eyes themselves are left untouched and unharmed.
